I don’t take my big computer to Maine with me, so I am very late in getting the great news out that after 6 1/2 years of work Sytse Douna and Ton Schoenmakers launched Arnhem, Olga 28 Hull #3, in Kerr Lake Reservoir on the VA-NC border.
Her’s some commentary from Ton and pictures:
“After filling some gasoline in both tanks, we took a trip to Kerr Lake and got her ready for the wet stuff: water and champagne!
We took time to run in the engine, had to train the Garmin Autopilot, get used to all the instruments, but after a few hours returned satisfied to the ramp.
GPS told us our max speed with the Mercury 4-stroke 115HP was 26 mph. Still have to figure out if those are Nautical Miles or Statue Miles.
Tested all other toys:
- Bow Thruster: That coffee grinder is a troller motor on BIG steroids!
- Horn: Not sure everyone liked it, but it sure is effective.
- Deck wash pump: Beyond expectations.
- VHF radio: Could not get MMSI, so AIS is not working yet. We did get local weather channels.
- Fridge: kept my beer cold enough.
- Fresh Water: Failed, most likely due to empty tanks. Need to recheck.
- Compost Head: Yeah, but small space.
- Tank Gauges: Not calibrated yet, need to revisit.
And on the ramp, we got comments from pretty much every skipper in the area! That was the cherry on the pie!
Goodonyas! She’s a beaut!
